Hurricane Bush

Do you feel better now, you big babies? Someone took the blame just to shut up the whiners. Now, ask yourself, does this solve the problem? No, there was still a hurricane of immense proportions and dead/dying people out there as a result. Nobody, but nobody controls the weather and nobody, but nobody can be blamed for the weather or the outcome of a hurricane devastation, and that includes shortcomings of response time.

S**t happens during a catastrophe.

Bush merely got the ball rolling in the right direction so that things can be accomplished instead of everyone pointing fingers at one another. Leave it to the leader of the US to make the right move in steering the vehicle of progress forward in the hurricane efforts.

I crapped my pants when I heard him take responsibility. I think he is drinking again. Anyway, the weather was acoming, everyone knew it, and just about everyone in government blew it. Also, I have a new found affection for Anderson Cooper, which is strange because I really like women.

did you notice he didn't say "I" messed up, but "the administration?"

the guy's frick'n genius. he's gonna get all this bi-partisan support to get at whoever messed up...and it sure ain't gonna be the boss! man, I've seen this same thing a bunch of times with football teams. they fire some coordinator, and then they keep their job till the REAL problem, which is usually the players, gets fixed.

he's a frick'n genius I say.

First of all, there are plenty of advisers that are getting paid to chew the food and put it back into Bush's mouth. Second of all, how long has the US known that New Orleans is bellow the see level? How long has the world known that the Gulf can get pretty active during the hurricane season? How come for decades no measures have been taken to repair and renovate the water drainage system? S**t does happen during catastrophes, but it takes an idiot to roll the dice every year and pray that a catastrophe doesn't grab him by the ba**s. How come Californian cities are prepared for earthquakes, how come every industry has a back up plan? Where's the back up plan on that one George?

How long has New Orleans been rolling the dice?

Should we go back and blame every president since the construction of the levee? How about everyone in government who could have had a part in making sure the levee was super strong? How about everyone who suggested rebuilding the levee stronger was a pork belly project?

The upgrading project had already been complete in the area that broke. Should be blame the planners or the engineers of the upgrading project?

What about those in charge of the operations? Should they not share the blame?

Easy to point fingers, isn't it?

Sam's right. S**t happens. Sitting pointing fingers does not bring back the dead or rescue them. Let's get a list of failures together, and a plan to solve those failures (and how about following the plan too). Truth be told - how much of this finger pointing is really about getting answers and how much is just to add a notch to the "I hate Bush" belt.

Cool Mr. Big, you don't wanna move there by any chance do you? I think it's funny that no one does anything unless trouble bites them in the a**. Terrorism: four years ago US didn't care about it (Russia and Chechnya? I was in Moscow on a business trip on a day an underground mall blew up and a few other apartment buildings as well). I was in there and it was pretty damn crazy. US didn't offer any help to "liberate" the world from Chechen terrorists, or did I miss something. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone, nor am I defending the system. My only concern is why do we need to wait for a tragedy to happen rather than take necessary measures in advance to prevent it from happening or at least be prepared in case "s**t happens"? To take the blame for something once it happened is the easiest thing to do. It's hard to have a vision and take the necessary steps to be ready for anything. In this case, only a dummy doesn't see that vision.

I wouldn't have moved there regardless - I like where I live thank you very much.

You missed my point entirely. The point is that the finger pointers all quick to jump in after the fact, and point fingers. Easy to do after the fact. Nobody for years took any responsibility and did anything but suddenly it's all Bush's fault. Everything. Hell, even the storm was caused by Bush by some people's account. Regardless of just how many people were truly neglectful over how many years. The person whom was in office at the final point of failure is the one responsible.

Are people pointing the finger at Bush because he's truly responsible for everything? Hell, he must have gone back in time and made everyone before him ignore the issue as well. Or is it because they hate him?

Give me a break.

I couldn't care less about Bush. I live in Hawaii and the last thing on my mind is the mainland. The only thing that's bugging me is this: if it is president's responsibility to protect his people, why hasn't that responsibility been fulfilled? Sure it's his term. He is in charge so he gets all the blame. It's not because everyone hates him (that too, but again, I couldn't care less about that). Put any democrat in the white house and you'll see the same results. By the way "finger pointers all quick to jump in after the fact, and point fingers" and insecure conservatives are quick to defend their position and blame everything on the obvious. I'm offering you a neutral view of how business should be taken care of properly: there's always a backup plan. And no, I didn't miss your point. It's easy to point fingers isn't it?

I think we are saying the same thing from two different vantage points.

If Clinton were in office, and people were blaming him I'd have the same reaction and I'd be defending him. True, I've seen plenty of people stick to their party lines and there is a ton of hypocrisy (on both sides).

BTW - just FYI - I'm not a conservative, liberal, republican or democrat. I'm a Canadian (just like Sam). One of the advantages of being a Canadian is that I don't have a party line to tow.

it's sad that he had to step up and be a sacraficial lamb to shut people up. It's really not his fault. Nor is it fema's.

The local and state government failed miserably. And this might sound callous, but there were a lot of STUPID people that decided to either stay, or wait on a free bus ride that never showed up.

If I had 3 days notice and no car, I could have walked out of New Orleans. Plain and simple.

Off topic - but why are these "poor" people there all like 300 pounds?

Bush is lying again. IT WAS MY FAULT!!!! Sorry?

I love the PREZ!!!!

What I'm tired of reading is people who respond to someone questioning what happened with- You obviously have never been in a hurricane. LOL Like if you haven't been in one you don't have any common sense and couldn't figure out what to do if you WERE in one.
