Ticka Ticka Ticka, Cachink, Cachink
Those are the sounds I hear as I type this article.
I don't know how office computer employees do it (techno geeks or whatever the politically correct term is for these modern day nerds).
I'm sitting here at my computer, hearing click, click, click, type, type, type and the monitor droning in the background. I can't imagine what it would be like to have more than 10 computers in a room doing this during a full day of work.
I'd go insane... more so.
We might end up having to think of a computer term for what was once called "going postal". Getting nerdy? Compu-killer? Techno-assassin? Typing Triggerman? Software Slayer?

We just have a radio in the background to provide white noise. :)

I just usually stare down anybody typing at the same time I am.
intimidation, that's how I keep it together!

Heh. *looks around at the five computers in his apartment, not counting the one his roomate owns, then thinks about his job in computer publishing support*
What noise? o.o

You could have the low roar of a server room with one or two servers beeping intermittently. That's where I go when the clickety-click gets to me. ;-)
Actually, music does cover a lot. The typing really doesn't bother me so long as I don't have to watch the person typing. But sometimes the sound of a water bottle being removed from the vaccuum created in someone's mouth just makes me want to scream. Sorry, couldn't help but share that. I need to go scream now...

Around my shop, it's often said of an overstressed engineer that "his bit bucket is full."
Seriously, though, there are countermeasures, headphones and music being the most common. A good heavy does of Glass Hammer or Spock's Beard will overmatch most office noises. But in truth, I get more irritated by human interruptions than from the clickety-clack of the keyboard environment -- they require me to take my headphones off.

I rather prefer the moniker of "computer jock".
I believe the phrase you are looking for would be "going terminal".
OK, so I am a geek.
