You Must Be Proud, Spammers
A dedication to all spammers of the world can be found at Lingo Slinger. With a morsal of foul mouthed vexation, Lingo states, "Your mothers must be proud. Imagine the embarassment that you are causing for her and the rest of your family." Then, goes on to comment on what a conversation might look like for a spammer's mother when talking about them to friends.
So, does anyone out there know if they are developing any anti-spamming stuff for bloggers? For instance, anything that will control trackback spam, comment spam, and the like. I don't know if there is already something legitimate out there, but it would be great if there was some amount of control. Some days, this gets downright ridiculous dealing with all the junk porn sites and advertisements for products. I'd like to have some good filtration system.

Lingo Slinger has her word verification option turned on, now. I also have it on my own site. It's a relatively new feature of Blogger that prevents auto-spam.
Unfortunately, the only things that will discourage deliberate spammers is deletion and banning. Then they go to someone else's blog and complain that you're not playing fair!

Yeh, there's anti-spammer stuff for bloggers, and it's relatively inexpensive. Implementing it is a bit convoluted and expensive, though/
See, you have to track them via their domain, etc., and _then_ you use the tar and feathers. The rope is optional.
The expense? Travel expenses. Gas is not cheap any more, and no one wants to put up with TSA goons, do they?

Blogger has the word verification, too, but I'm just waiting for the spammers to find a way around that.

You might try blogspot.com. They have a nifty one of those skewed and random alpha codes that the person responding to your blog needs to manually re-type as a kind of automated spam-blocker. I activated the feature on my blog and it has stopped the blog spamming on my blog.
Good luck!

Samantha,
MT-Blacklist will help you with the comment and trackback spam. You may also consider a "turing test" (that's the word in a picture thingee) on your comment template to help out.
MT-Blacklist is free and easy to find from the main Movable Type website.
Keep up the good work girl, you seem to have this bloggin thing down as far as traffic goes, now you just gotta manage the spammers.

Thank you all so much for the help. I wasn't sure what was out there, if anything, but now I have a few things to work with to control the junk.
Thanks again.

An alternative to MT Blacklist is to upgrade to MT 3.2, which includes several anti-Spam plugins as part of the total install. I just upgraded a few days ago. The trick, however, is configuring the plugins so that the good stuff gets through while the bad stuff goes to feedback purgatory.
