ACLU: Wolf In Sheep's Clothing?
Click on the sign to get a larger image of the ACLU's information board.
I was tagged to post a sign for the outside of the ACLU's offices, by A North American Patriot, who was tagged by Holly Aho - who was in turn, tagged by REAL Teen- Right on the Right who was tagged by Cao’s Blog who was tagged by Third World County who was tagged by Euphoric Reality.
I tag those who support or contribute to Stop the ACLU blog. Or, those who have a link to Stop the ACLU. Or, those who've seen a link to Stop the ACLU. Or, heck, why don't I just tag Stop the ACLU themselves.

I'm really at a loss as to why people are so against one of the only organziations that will support poeple without money in protecting their civil rights. Isn't that an American value? They protect the rights of Christians, too, by the way.

Virus... you are joking right? I mean you can't possibly truly be serious.
Let's run down a few of the "rights" they are currently protecting.
There is the sex offender who they believe should be allowed to raise his next victim.
The terrorists who have enabled mass murder of fellow Americans.
The illegal aliens that ILLEGALLY enter our country and ILLEGALLY work here and wow AREN'T Americans.
The nations LARGEST pedophile group NAMBLA.

I agree with you that standing up for civil rights in America is sometimes distasteful. Sometimes we would prefer that these were not our values. But we dishonor our values as a nation if we disregard them. There is criminal process that can judge criminal activities - but we surely can't try to claim democratic superiority if we do not treat all as human being in the process. It is - truly - distressing to me to see our movement away from the values of equal rights under the law. They are currently calling for action on:
Patriot Act debate and reform
Religious Discrimination in Head Start
Using the Hurricane Katrina Tragedy to Push Through a National School Voucher Program
Stop Illegal Torture
Protection of basic legal safeguards to people facing the death penalty
I suspect we just won't agree on this one - and I'm not writing to provoke you. I read this blog all the time. I just can't believe that these smear campaigns continue against one of the few organizations that might step forward to challenge - on the basis of our own laws - what is happening in this country today.
When the ACLU is gone, so am I. We're headed into a very dark time if we continue to lose our checks and balances.

Sam,
ROTGLOL! Keep up the great work!
Virus,
I totally agree with L. Also, I'll support the ACLU when they start defending REAL victims like unborn humans- not terrorists, criminals, and sexual predators. And seriously, an organization that could support NAMBLA SHOULD be criticized. There may be a couple good people that they actually help, but for the most part, the ACLU is working for purely vile causes.

The ACLU hasn't substantially chaged its goal since its founding in the 20s. Then, it was to use the judicual system and Americans' sense of fair play and civil rights to overthrow our government and institute an communist government.
All it's done since then has been to become even more disingenuous, distancing itself verbally from its communist roots and continuing to do the same subversive work.
It does NOT defend citizens' rights except as a ploy to fundamentally undermine the rule of law that supports and protects our rights.
Let them who have ears, hear...

Those commie bast---. Oh this is someone elses blog.
Yeah stop the ACLU. When the ACLU is gone let's all have a party. By the way I needed some legal representation a few years ago from having my civil rights violated and the ACLU couldn't help me. SO they are liars. They have been infiltrated by deeemons. Mwha. Liars I tell you liars.

Here's a representative comment from this thread:
I'll support the ACLU when they start defending REAL victims like unborn humans- not terrorists, criminals, and sexual predators.
Actually, to be clear, most of their efforts are aimed at helping people alleged to be these things receive the due process too many people are willing to deny them.
The rest of the ACLU's effort is focused on protecting one's right to speech, everyone's right to speech, even yours.
It's telling that not one of you offered one hyperlink to even one utterly unreliable site supporting a single one of your claims considering what the ACLU is, and what it does.
Remember, the rights they preserve will be yours as well. Best to err on the side of caution when the alternative is the Thought Police, from whom no one would be safe.

The ACLU is a mixed bag. That you folks can't see that is more of a testament of your rabid political loyalties than anything. See, there are two types of conservatives - those who are against the Democrats, and those who are anti-statist (that is the libertarians). I'm in the latter group and I will ally with those who will help promote that cause. Most of you people are in the former group, which is why you are ultimately no friend of liberty or freedom.
Now, of course the Institute for Justice (IJ) is a closer ideological partner for me, but the ACLU does defend individuals against a certain variety of statist action, and as long as they do that, more power to them (on those particular issues).
