A Fishy Subject
A Norwegian researcher plans to determine whether feeding prisoners a heavy diet of fish will aid in getting them to give up their bad ways.
Anita Hansen will research the connection between oily fish and the ability to control implusive actions, violent outbursts, and a lack of concentration.
Hansen stated that earlier studies have suggested a link between the human heart rate and human actions.
Her study will include two test groups,
"One will be given extra omega-3 and the other group will not. She will then look for any differences in behavior."
They should just be thankful that it's not another seafood that they are researching with... oysters. Since oysters are considered an aphrodesiac, we'd have a lot more accidental dropping of the soap and a lot more prison b*tches.
Ouch!

If a "researcher" from a country that was NOT the worlds top exporter of fish oil products undertook such research, I'd be a bit more interested. This reminds me of the study where McDonald's funded research that showed how fried [as opposed to grilled] hamburgers were better for you because the retained fat had been partially converted to linoleic acid, a beneficial fatty acid. There are vegetable sources or even supplements that could get you the CLA without jacking your fat intatke through the roof but nobody involved in the study mentions that.
Mere correlations are written up as "connections" and further garbled by being read as if cause and effect were understood. Caveat lector! Most of these studies where the funding and the subject have a financial conflict of interest are a crock even without the farfetched premises like fish oil's effect on sociopathy. Sheesh!

Omega 3 is supposed to be good for easing "that time of the month" cramps.
I guess that this new fish enriched diet will enable prison officials to cut the Pamprin budget :p
