Comments?

Common Sense Runs Wild had posed an interesting question on the weekend that I found a worthy comment for.

Better left to go read it there yourself, the jist of it is, do you leave comments at every site you go to?

"Do you comment each time you visit? Do you think it's still possible to have a civil debate in the blogosphere?"

When it comes to civil debates here, I am reminded of the recent issue of open trackbacks between the blue state conservative and my blog. Although it started very rocky and accusatory, it ended civil (as long as we've heard the end of it, that is).

Although I stayed out of it, I think the two men involved ended it commendably.

As for my other answers to the posed question, you have to visit Common Sense Runs Wild and leave your own while there.

Comments

Following instructions I've left my comment there.

I wish I had the time to comment on every blog I visit, especially because comments left on my own blog are practically like blog-crack (or mother's milk, anyway) to me. Trackbacks rule, but comments can keep you going and let you know that you're not just typing into the void.

If I read a news or analysis post I usually don't comment unless I have some new information or perspective to add, though I try to leave some encouragement when someone has really nailed it. Likewise, a post that makes me laugh - or brings a witty (hopefully) rejoinder to mind - will lead me to leave a comment, especially if it's on a blog I read regularly. If I disagree with someone I usually don't try to argue with that blogger through a comment unless I get a sense that the writer is open to input or debate or is looking for information. Life (and my blogging time each day) is too short to get into unproductive disputes.

All in all there are many more posts that are comment-worthy than what I actually leave a comment on; sometimes it's just a matter of there only be so many ways to say, "Wow, great job!"

That said, I like Sam's crazy rants for the "never know what you're going to see" humor and variety so I visit regularly. Yeah, an occasional post will be a groaner, but that just makes the other posts all the sweeter! Rant on and rant well, Samantha!

Thanks for the link Samantha! Actually I'm trying NOT to comment on the post at my site because I want to see how the discussion plays out without interference from me. I will say here that I totally agree with Night Writer's comments.

I plan on posting my "analysis" of the comments about comments(!) next week. Blog-crack indeed!
