Bloggers Without Butts Week, January 1 - 7, 2006

For all you smokers and non-smokers out there, wanting to, trying to, or supporting someone who's trying to quit smoking, a support network is being offered to you through some of our fellow bloggers.
quitting
I'm Just a Girl and Dianes Stuff has a plan for the week of Jan. 1-7th where everyone involved will post about what methods are being used to quit and provide moral support to one another!

Every day of that week members will post about their efforts and how it’s going for each of them. They decided upon Jan. 1-7th as it is a good time to start on New Year’s Resolutions, plus the time frame gives everyone an entire month to decide on a strategy to quit.

"If you need to visit a doctor, GO. If you need to stock up on hard candy, DO IT. If you need to go buy some patches, BUY THEM. Just have your game plan ready before the 1st of January!"

I think this is also a good opportunity for non-smokers out there, or those who have already quit, to express our support. Non-smokers can post any knowledge they have in efforts to quit smoking, share stories of people they know who smoke or have tried to smoke, perhap share some light-hearted humour on the subject of quitting, etc.

Remember, it is not easy for many to quit, some may have been smoking for 50 years or so. Now just imagine quitting something that you've been doing for that long. It's not easy, so they could use all the friendly encouragement they can get.

I mean, just imagine quitting your routine of waking up day after day and heading to the john for your morning cr*p. Trying to stop something that seems to come so natural to you is not easy, so a bit of loyal comforting and aid will go a long way.

Thanks for helping us promote this, Sam! Thanks for your support too, we'll need it!

Yes indeed! Thanks much :) I think it's another scathingly brilliant idea to have non-smokers and especially ex-smokers to throw their ideas into the ring. We're going to need all the help we can get!

Hi Samantha, I quit smoking three years ago after smoking for well, I'm almost ashamed to say, 35 years. I quit in December and I first cut down starting in November and got myself down to a pack a day of ultra lights. Then one day I lit up one of those ultra lights and just said the heck with this. I did OK for the first month but around the middle of January I got real bitchy and I was hard to be around. This is the price I had to pay but I don't regret stopping. I have some very nice clothes that always smelled like smoke and my hair and breath always smelled like smoke, quite attractive huh? The health implications are obvious and I hope i didn't do too much damage and I can live longer now. My advice to anyone considering quitting, do it and get it over with. Warn your family and friends but just get rid of the butts. I can really smell the roses now. It's amazing the improvement to my life.

The morning cr*p what the time I sparked up a cig. LOL

Ooops!
The morning cr*p what the time I sparked up a cig. LOL

Was supposed to say,
The morning cr*p whas the time I sparked up a cig. LOL!

A crossword book took the place of the cig.

One piece of important information, your body will retain THREE times the amount of caffeine it did before you quit smoking.

Unless you cut your caffeine intake by 67% you will be climbing the walls.

Does this mean drinking decaf? Not unless you wish to and trying to kick two habits at the same time is setting yourself up.

I suggest reg mixed with decaf at a 1 to 2 ratio, one scoop real stuff, with two scoops why don't you put brown food coloring in hot water. ;-)

What if I'm already climbing the walls with my caffeine intake?? I don't care what anyone says... I function better with the caffeine effect going on.

Ohhh statistics! Interesting, Dan! I hope you'll all come and post on the various smoker's blogs during the week we're trying to quit. :) Or do I? I might be so angry and irratable during that week I'll tell you to shove 67% in the manhole.

Seriously though, info I did not know, thanks!

Quit smoking one week and found out that his smoking trigger was blogging. He tries to keep people updated.

I quit smoking after 40 years by deciding I would control the cigarettes rather than letting them control me. I wadded up the pack in my pocket, threw them in the trash and have not smoked since, that was 8 years ago.
