Beer, Popcorn, and Child Care

This post submitted by Lostinlimaohio - and Approved by Sam.

After last week's post gone wrong, I've decided to not talk about Canadian Porn anymore. So, on a completely different subject than Canadian Porn, I thought I would share this:

Canadians use government money to buy "beer and popcorn". Beer and popcorn?? I always thought you had beer and nuts. Or beer and pizza. Beer and popcorn, that doesn't sound very good. It's just wrong.

So here's the deal, Canada gave money to parents - my sources have not yet verified if MR.BIG was part of this group - to pay for their kids' child care. Instead, parents decided to screw the babysitters and buy... you guessed it, beer and popcorn. And to think, all this time I thought they where using the money to pay for web hosting so the child care workers could blog.

Now, before you get mad at parents in Canada, I should tell you that I failed to read the WHOLE story before I began writing this. Evidently what I missed was:

"Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin rapped a top aide on Tuesday for saying an opposition proposal to hand out cash for child care would merely result in parents spending the money on 'beer and popcorn'."
"Working families need care. They need care that is regulated, safe and secure, and that's what we're building here. Don't give people C$25 a day to blow on beer and popcorn," Reid told CBC television."

See, they haven't given the money to the beer and popcorn loving Canadian parents yet. It's a proposal. It hasn't gone through just yet, so no one has really used the money for the evil "beer and popcorn" consuming parties just yet. You may want to read the full story yourself.

Nonetheless, if the proposal goes through, and Sam's website shuts down due to lack of funding, we will at least be able to know that her and MR.BIG are having a good time devouring beer and popcorn. Hopefully, they won't be doing it at that movie theater from last week.

Helo there

it's nothing to do with this post, but every now and again I keep getting referalls from your blog. I not complaining of course, but I notice I appear in your random blogroll now and again and wonder if there's any reason I'm on it?

Thanks for the referalls anyway :-)

Heck, when I was going to school at Bowling Green State U, every party I went to was *centered* around "beer and popcorn", the latter usually layered with lots of garlic salt, presumably to encourage the drinking of mass quantities of the former (well, okay, there were also these funny smelling cigarettes and pipes getting passed around, too, but I really wouldn't know about any of that [insert innocent grin here]...)

SHHH, the whole point it to make Canadians think they are strange for the whole beer and popcorn thing.

Beer and Popcron are funny, but asking someone why you are on their blogroll is funny too!!!

Great posting L.! I love it. I have *burp* not been *eehht* spending the money on beer *murp* and.... and... I love you guys, I really do.

Rhys - It's all in the FAQ. :)
