Your Favourite Word

Here is a site where you can share your favourite word and explain why.

I didn't add mine to the list, but my favourite word is fathom, not the unit of measurement "fathom", but the comprehension "fathom".

I just enjoy hearing people say that they "fathom" something or that it's "unfathomable".

So, what's your favourite word and why?

Comments

I've always been very fond of the world "wombat." It's just a funny-sounding word. For example:

"Why did you miss work yesterday?"
"I was mauled by a rabid wombat."

See?

My favorite word is antepenultimate because it is so useful and comes up just about every day.

I shall avoid, studiously, the more difficult words and place into contention, as my favorite word, "tepid", as in the tepid comments of Mr. John Kerry, failed proponent of the politics of appeasement.

Cheers!

My favorite word is prism for the image it brings to mind.

i'm interested by prefixed words that we never, ever use without their prefixes. Your favourite word is a great example - when have you ever heard someone describe something as "fathomable" ?

Or couth? Or whelmed? There are a lot of words like that. It's absolutely whelming.

synergy

I like the sound of it and the meaning. I like to create synergy. Unfortunately others like it a lot, too, so it has been used to DEATH all over the web. I could never use it as a domain or company name. I have this word posted at my desk. See:

I like ecclesiastes. So hard to say, yet if you become the master of saying it, you can be utmostly snooty.
