Sucky Commercials
Does anyone else notice how terrible television commercials are getting?
Some don't advertise their product, so you don't even know what the commercial is for. What's the point of that? Or, they flash their product name at the end of the commercial, whoopty-doo - still don't know what it is they're selling.
Others don't even touch on humour, intrigue, or enlightening the senses in any way.
Take, for instance, the new Pepsi commercial with Jimmy Fallon. I just saw this one the other day, and it is so retarded.
And, not the good kind of retarded, I mean cr*ptacular.
He drinks, and then starts dancing moronically down the street while some woman on the other side of the street does the same, then on top of a taxi cab, he lifts her up and she doesn't come back down. End of commercial.
Uh... okay then.
Fallon was cheesy and flawed, but decent on SNL, and now that he's left the cast, I think he must be desperate for a buck because that commercial bites it big time.
Another really terrible thing about commercials is their pitiful use of oldies-but-goodies music. One example is the Swiffer ad that revises that Salt N' Pepa song, Push It.
"Push it real good"For some reason, I don't think Salt N' Pepa meant pushing a broom.
Seriously, I thought I told myself I'd stop watching tv.
I'm off to listen to some Salt N' Pepa music... and I won't be thinking of brooms.

The commercials I hate the most are for medication. They never tell you what the stuff is for, they just say, "Talk to you doctor to see if Xacklor is right for you."
I asked my doctor if Xacklor was right for me and he asked if I intended on getting pregnant soon.

That isn't just "some woman". That's B-movie queen Parker Posey: http://www.parkerposey.org/
I actually find this commercial funny. I laugh every time I see it, except for the part where he throws her in the air and she doesn't come back down. That's just silly.
Yeah, like dancing on top of a cab in NYC isn't. Heh.

Hmmm. Two comments from me in one day... odd.
I dread becoming a really old person and hearing groups like Duran Duran, AC/DC, or The Cure in "Adult Diaper" commercials. I will have to kill myself when that happens.

The new Volkswagen commercials are just too sucky for words. I would never consider buying one for just that reason.

I am more disappointed in Parker Posey's appearance in the commercial. Compared to this commercial, her appearance in Blade: Trinity is almost forgivable.
Almost.
I wouldn't so much call Parker Posey a B movie actress, she's more of an indie movie actress. She's great in all of Christopher Guests films (Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, Waiting for Guffman).

I love the word cr*ptacular. And I agree Salt-n-Pepa pushing brooms won't get me to buy the broom, unless I'm going to use it to whack whoever came up with the ad.

I think Led Zeppelin doing a Cadillac commercial is OK. Cadillacs remind me of my Grandfather. Robert Plant looks like a Grandpa and Jimmy Page looks like a Grandma. Perfect match.

Indeed I cringed when C+C Music Factory's early 90 stylings showed up on an ad for training pants.
I believe this Pepsi commercial is the start of something intriguing. And, somehow, in a year or two, when the whole saga ends, Parker will fall into Jimmy's arms and they will drink Pepsi happily ever after.
At least, if *I* were their ad guy, that's what I'd be pushing for right now.

Personally I find the VW commmercials hilarious, but then again I've got a few cousins/nephews that are all agape when the newest "spinners" cruise by on some other pimped out riceburner.
My fav right now though has to be the "Big Bucking Chicken" commercials.
I'll agree with the general -- commercials suck. Normally I just fast forward through them (TIVO rocks but I've caught myself playing the VW and BBC commericals over again.
