Perverts Beware
For those of you who like 'em at a ripe age of 14 (ick), be aware that you can no longer do it openly in my country.
With internet sexcapades happening more frequently, the Canadian government has elected to raise the age of consent from 14 to age 16.
Like Jim said to me when he sent me this news bit, "I didn't know the age of consent in Canada was 14."
Neither did I.
Darn it, and I thought I was doing something criminal with that guy when I was 15. And, here it was, all along, legal. How awful!
"Our goal in this legislation is not to criminalize teenage youth who may be involved in sexual activity with their peers."Ya, because it's so right for kids to be having sex in the first place.
Sure, it's going to happen anyways, but does that mean we should just "go with it", and keep it legal and therefore, acceptable?

"But the proposal, first outlined in April, will also allow youngsters to have consensual sex with people up to five years older or younger, even if that means one partner is aged 14 or 15."
So does a "youngster" of 15 still get to have consensual sex with a "youngster" of 10?
Ok, I know that isn't the point of the legislation, and the point of the legislation is good. But I'm seeing some unintended interpretations here.

Doesn't the legislature still need to approve this? Or is that a mere formality? I couldn't figure that out from the article I read about it.
Even in the U.S., the laws are different. In Connecticut, for instance, it's 16, but if you travel just down the road to Jersey, I think it's 18. It's all location, location, I guess.

James d. - yes, they will resume discussion in September apparently, so you're right, 14 year olds are free-for-all for all the sick f*cks out there 'til at least September.
But, that is pretty much just a formality of the situation, as I'm sure age of consent will be changed.

Hi Sam,
Great post, and thank you for warning the Internet perverts. It is sad when child are exploited by internet porn sites, and predators! Hopefully the legislation will address the real issues. Take care

At least raising the age of consent is a step in the right direction.
