Maybe That'll Keep The Punks In Line
Can we get this idea up in Canada, please?
If we could, I'd reconsider teaching as a career, lol.
Lawmaker's in Wisconsin call to arm school staff:
A state lawmaker, worried about a recent string of deadly school shootings, suggests arming teachers, principals and other school personnel as a safety measure and a deterrent.Screw political correctness. Start putting smart a$$ kids in their place. It might not be politically correct, but it has worked effectively in other countries, Republican Rep. Frank Lasee said yesterday.
I'm afraid, though, that some jacka$$ teachers would abuse the idea whenever some punk student p*sses them off.
Unfortunately.
But, then again, perhaps there'd be a lot less punk a$$ kids lipping off their elders if instructors brandished weaponry.
What a conundrum!
The Crazy Rants of Samantha Burns

Sounds a bit draconian, plus there's quite a few crazy teachers out there that I wouldn't trust with a gun. But who knows...

My dad taught at a high-school populated by psychopaths - well at lest his Shop (Metal and Wood) classes had a high number of low-IQ/extra X-chromosomal, 6'-4" 250lb 19-year old return-inhabitants.
Being stupid and zit-poppingly hormonal they wouldn't hesitate to step-up to any physical challenge, so he'd just hand them a note/slip and say, "Go talk to the Vice-Principal." This actually got him into trouble (and performance review-land) with the Union Administration because they thought Shop teachers were supposed to be de-facto Disciplinarians. He wasn't getting paid enough to get beaten-up or killed by unthinking underage morons, and didn't always do what they expected - and as a pacifist wouldn't ever carry a gun.

It's like I've always said: "Give everyone in the world a gun, and the world will be a better and more fun place." Actually, that wasn't me, it was Gandhi.

Hey Sam..I agree with you on the fact that teachers should be able to have a way to take care of the smart a** kids...I tend to worry about some teachers and guns, thinking particularly back to my 10th grade history teacher..yikes, how about if we give them a gun with no bullets..I know..:) but wait for it..I had a bumper sticker made that says..."I have a gun, I know I cant shoot you, but I can PISTOL WHIP the hell out of you!!...Have a nice day"...might work if this was posted in each classroom with the gun in full view...what d'ya think...:)...M

Lol, Will. Was it Gandhi? Or Mother Theresa?
madd - I'm liking the poster idea, lol.
DirtCrashr - I know what you mean about the stereotyping of shop teachers, and it's good that your dad took a stand against that image.
seb - probably more than a few, lol, and who knows how else they'd abuse the idea.

I've become so cynical about the whole public-school model that there's nothing I could say about this that would be remotely funny, even in a Swiftian "Modest Proposal" sense.

If we bring all the soldiers home from Iraq and Afghanistan, we could could post them in the schools instead!

Post the BATF in the schools; let them do something that's actually USEFUL for a change.
