Victoria Day
A friend of mine, Jim, recently emailed me, recognising Victoria Day, and asked what it was all about. So, I thought I'd publish a little of my response in case any of you are wondering what it is at this point.
Basically, Victoria Day is the day we use to celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday, as well as whoever is the present day queen or king (ie. Queen Elizabeth II's 'official' birthday is today, but it's not her actual birthday).
More than anything, it's a good excuse to have a day off from work, lol.
It's also called May long weekend, which is our first warm long weekend after a long and cold winter, so we get out there and hit the beaches, travel, go camping, etc.
It's also a great time for cops to hand out speeding tickets, lol (to fulfill their quota).
So, that's a little about Canuckland.

Lilo - every day is Bush Day, lol. Ya, we are still run by the British Empire, sort of. At least, on paper, anyhow.
Carl - what'd you say about my underwear? lol
MacBros - come on, you're a Canuck, you live in an igloo for crying out loud. Surely you can sunbathe in the snow.

Speaking of Canadia (I pronounce it that way from time to time for humor's sake -- plus it bugs the heck out of a friend of mine who's a humanities major who tends to be a stickler on proper pronounciations -- it also bugs him when I say "sammich" for sandwich and a few others -- we used to be college roommates and are still close friends even though we are hundreds of miles apart) if I ever get a little wealthy and can afford it, I'd love to take a cross country trip on the Trans-Canada railroad and then take a cruise ship off the west coast up to Alaska. I know of some folks who have done this and they loved it.

What's wrong with sammiches? I thought everyone loves sammiches.
The train rides are awesome; I love hearing the clickity-clack on the track. Haven't done the cruise thing yet, but plan to one day.
Hope you get that opportunity.
